Carrying a backpack with just enough clothes for one additional day and some basic items, I begin my personal “deep dive” very early Thursday morning August 31st, in Saint Jean Pied de Port, France; crossing the Pyrenees into Spain, staying every night in pilgrim hostels within villages along the Camino, experiencing local culture and global fellow pilgrims, taking in breathtaking vistas, holding space for gratitude within small churches and cathedrals, and, always, humbly accepting the hospitality of strangers.
As I have done in past solo travels, from the Antarctic Peninsula to the sacred mountains of Tibet, I will carry Ernest Holmes’ seminal paperback “This Thing Called You”…a primer on how we are an immutable part of the flow of life. I fully know, as I continually experience, that once we are fully aware and filled with that knowledge, we can live a life of joy, confidence, power and ease. I know I do.
A student of Holmes’ Science of Mind teachings, as well as Buddhist meditation, many know that I am also an avid hiker. The Camino Frances brings together both these passions so that, with each footstep, I will present a blank canvas for Spirit to speak to me…about where my next steps in life are meant to lead, without judgment and always with open eyes.
I invite you to join me on this 48 day adventure as I jot down my thoughts, post pictures of the people and land one only encounters on foot, and share passages from Ernest’s book that speak to me along this amazing “deep dive”. Let’s do this!
